2015 uOttawa Somali Alumni Scholarship

The Somali Centre for Family Services (SCFS) in partnership with the University of Ottawa Somali Alumni Association will provide an entry level scholarship of $1000 to a well deserving student pursuing post-secondary education within the University of Ottawa.

This scholarship is intended to reward the recipient for his/her personal achievements, involvement in their community and strong academic background. We place confidence in doing good for young ambitious people, who will do well for our community. As a measure of our responsibility to capacity building we aim to assist youth in completing their post-secondary education.

The Uottawa Somali Alumni Scholarship is applicable to graduating students in High School from Somali or Djibouti ethnic decent. The Scholarship recipient will be selected primarily on the basis of personal and academic achievements as well as individual financial need.

Potential applicants should carefully read the information package, fill out the contact form attached below, and submit it to the Somali Centre for Family Services office no later than Monday August 3rd 2015.

1. Transcript

Please provide an official transcript of your second semester grades prior to exams with your completed application.

2. Reference letter (Employer, Volunteer Supervisor etc...)

Please note that the reference letter cannot be written by a family member or legal guardian and will result in direct disqualification from the selection process.

3. Personal Statement Letter

In 1000 words or less tell us more about yourself. As a guide, use the following questions:

  • Who are you, your strengths and weaknesses?
  • What are your aspirations in the near and more distant future, and how you plan to get there?
  • What are some personal achievements you are proud of?
  • What are your personal circumstances and economic situation?
  • Why is the career/school program you are choosing a ‘good fit’ for you?

The application and attachments must be mailed or delivered in person no later than Wednesday August 12th 2015 to:
